The Slattery Media Group (SMG) was created in 1995 by prominent journalist, publisher and author Geoff Slattery as the contracted publisher for the Australian Football League—Australia’s leading sporting body.

Since those early times, SMG has grown to become an independent book publisher and digital producer, with a unique capacity to create custom publications for an array of corporate clients.

During 2012–13, The Slattery Media Group will produce books (for the book trade and custom clients), including histories, biographies and memoirs, cookbooks and children’s books.

Although SMG is one of Australia’s leading sports books publishers, our focus is to provide a voice for Australian writers and creatives.

We have provided a variety of communication services including publishing, websites, apps and photography for a number of clients, including the Australian Football League (1995–2011), Queen Victoria Market, Aldi, Thermomix, Cricket Australia, the Victoria Racing Club, the Football Federation of Australia, and Tennis Australia.

In January 2012, SMG created an iPad app, promoting the official program of the Australian Open Tennis Championship, the Grand Slam of Asia/Pacific—a first for a Grand Slam event. SMG’s iPhone app FootyLite was rated by Fairfax’s Good Weekend magazine as a leader in the competitive sports app market.

At the beginning of 2012, SMG ended its long contract with the AFL, and has started an aggressive phase of publishing content in print and digital forms, while seeking communication and publishing solutions for an array of clients. We’ve grown to become an innovative and forward-thinking voice in publishing, a company that thinks on its feet and quickly implements ideas to achieve outcomes. We do this for our own business, and we work directly with clients to help them build theirs.

SMG’s CEO, Geoff Slattery, has more than 40 years’ experience in media. SMG has a strong team of 25 people, experienced in idea generation, digital and mobile strategy and marketing, web development, project management, graphic design, editorial, journalism, print, marketing, publicity and sales.

Our book sales and distribution arm is managed by Five Mile Press, a subsidiary of the European Media Company Bonnier Ltd. Five Mile Press shares SMG’s aim to publish and sell great Australian books.
